Project
The story began in the year 2002, when the Executive Committee (at the time) of Hindu Society of Queensland (HSQ) made a bold and strategic decision to acquire a two and half acre land at 373 Bracken Ridge Road, Bracken Ridge with the intention to build a temple for the Hindu community.
Over the following ten years, the Committee made a huge effort and fully repaid the $330,000 bank loan to reach the debt-free status by the end of year 2012. HSQ employed a team of consultants who worked closely with the HSQ stakeholders, members and Brisbane City Council (BCC) to prepare design documentations and lodged with BCC to obtain development approval. After a lengthy process, the Development Approval (DA) was finally granted by BCC in April of 2019.
However, the immediate neighbours appealed this DA decision, and the case was heard at the Planning and Environmental Court. HSQ engaged a legal team to represent it at the Court and an agreement was reached and amended DA was issued on 1st June 2022 via Planning and Environmental Court.
It was important for the executive committee to meet the Development Approval due date of 18th April 2025. Few years already lapsed, and it was becoming necessary to start the next phase of the project as a matter of priority. The current Executive Committee decided to form a HSQ Construction Team (made of volunteers), and the 1st meeting was held on 28th April this year. This Construction Committee was assigned the task to engage a design team to carry out design development to achieve the next milestone of obtaining Building Approval (BA) and other Authority Approval including Operational Works Approval (OPW). The Construction Committee called out three tenders for each design discipline and engaged the consultants providing the best proposal to facilitate the design development process. The current Executive Committee did not choose the easy option of engaging a project manager to manage the design team rather professions within the Hindu society who volunteered their time and energy at no cost to manage the full design process.
HSQ would like to acknowledge all the Consultants and Authorities for their support and hard work.
